LanCom Software
LanCom is a suite of programs working together to create a unique messaging system. Use of LanCom software and Hi*Tech Electronic Displays on a LAN system can be the cornerstone of a total employee messaging system.
Users with appropriate access rights can create a variety of messages to be displayed at various locations within the company. These messages can contain text and graphics. The text messages can incorporate real time data taken from a source external to LanCom. Real time data can be incorporated into the text messages either through OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) or DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange).
LanCom Software Suite consists of three components; System Administrator, User, and Display Manager.
The System Administrator controls access to the displays, the number of variables and the number of frames available to the user. Information about the displays themselves is also contained in System Administrator. Typically one System Administrator is installed per system.
The User portion allows users with access rights to create, edit, preview, and download playfiles. Currently no limit is placed on the number of users.
The Display Manager section maintains a playorder and schedule of messages for each connected display. It controls the transmission of messages to each display. Display Manager must be open on the "server" in order for transmission to occur.
Additional features of LanCom are emergency messaging and the ability to schedule playfiles for automatic future display.
LanCom can communicate to displays via RS232, RS485, or over a LAN system. For real time information to be displayed or scheduling of automatic download of playfiles, the Display Manager PC must be running.
